Making Exercise Fit Into Your Schedule: How to Do It and Why You
Should
The benefits of regular exercise have become increasingly well-known.
Some of the known benefits include improved cardiovascular health-from
lowering blood pressure to improving
cholesterol
counts, strengthening muscles and bones, helping to fight depression,
lowering risk of breast and colon cancer, and, of course, improving
your physical appearance. Some of the benefits, such as improved cardiovascular
health, derive mostly from cardiovascular exercise, whereas other benefits
such as building stronger muscles and bones, come primarily from resistance
training. A good exercise program will incorporate both types of exercise.
Unfortunately, the busy schedules many people face hinder adding regular
exercise into their daily schedule. This can be particularly unfortunate
because most of our daily lives are spent in sedentary activity. We
work in offices, sit around and watch TV, and the most walking we typically
get involves strolling from the parking to our office or shopping mall.
In this section of the magazine, though, we hope to show you that you
need not struggle to fit exercise into our daily schedules. Nor do we
necessarily need to pay for an expensive gym membership that we rarely
use to get in better shape. Rather, we can fit
exercise
into our daily schedules and thereby improve our quality of life as
well as our appearance by following some basic steps. Even something
as intimidating as weight training can be performed with only a minimal
time commitment and still yield significant results.
In future articles, we'll describe more fully the benefits of exercise
as well as show you additional ways to incorporate exercise into our
daily lives. So, please delve into the articles listed in the box above
